The Zanzibar Excursion

Zanzibar is an amazing island and there are many things that you can do here – it is advisable to read a guide book before you go as well as speak to your guide so that you will get what you want out of this excursion. We do not include Zanzibar as part of the organized tour as most people prefer to explore the island on their own, or with some of your new friends from the tour.

There are banking and Internet facilities on the island. Often the exchange rates for foreign currency and Travellers Cheques are better here than in Dar es Salaam but make sure you speak to the guide about how much money you will need before you change too much.

There are different ways to get to Zanzibar and your guide will tell you which is the best value currently.  Remember that although Tanzania is officially a Christian country, Zanzibar is Muslim and if you are there during any Muslim religious holidays you should show the appropriate respect. It is not advisable for women to be dressed very revealingly as this could offend some locals.  This is only a potential problem in Stone Town, if you stay at any of the resorts this is not a problem.

Day 16: Zanzibar / Dar es Salaam

Today you reluctantly leave Zanzibar and catch a late ferry (or flight) back to Dar es Salaam and return to your campsite. The evening can be spent reminiscing back at the campsite. Overnight in camp. Dinner.

Day 17: Arusha, Tanzania

A long and scenic drive takes you to Arusha, the safari capital of Tanzania. If there are clear skies en-route you might see Mt Kilimanjaro. After arriving in Arusha you prepare to explore the Serengeti National Park - one of the most abundant wildlife reserves in the world. Overnight in camp. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Days 18 & 19: Serengeti/Ngorongoro

There are many options available, ranging from the one-day trip to the Ngorongoro crater, to a three-day trip into the Serengeti. As this is for your own expense, you give you every opportunity to match the activity to your budget. For those not going to the parks, take this opportunity to absorb some of the fascinating local culture. Own arrangements Breakfast (Day 18 only).

Day 20: Arusha, Tanzania

Getting together again after your various game viewing activities in the game parks, you spend your last night in this beautiful country swapping 'big game' stories around the campfire. The groups normally return from the Serengeti excursion late in the afternoon. Overnight in camp. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 21: Nairobi, Kenya - Tour ends

After crossing the border into Kenya with Kilimanjaro receding into the distance, you continue on towards Nairobi and the end of your journey. The last evening on tour is normally spent out at a local restaurant celebrating the completion of your African Adventure Tour! Enjoy optional activities such as Dinner at Carnivore. Breakfast and Lunch.
