Day 1: Nairobi to Arusha, Tanzania
Your tour departs Nairobi, crossing the border into Tanzania at Namanga, and then continuing to Arusha. This town is situated at the base of Mount Meru and is the starting point for your optional excursion to the Ngorongoro Crater and/or the Serengeti National Park. Lunch and dinner is included.
Day 2: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania (optional)
If you take the 2 night/3 day option, you leave Arusha to the Serengeti National Park. You travel through the Maasai town of Mtu Wa Mbu and up into the Ngorongoro Reserve for a glimpse of the Crater before descending down onto the Serengeti plains.
The Serengeti is home to some of the largest wildlife concentrations in Africa, and the number of plains game is something to be remembered. Your afternoon is spent game viewing, before you set up tent in the midst of the bush. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Day 3: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania
After a full morning of game viewing, you pack up and head towards the Ngorongoro Crater. Here you travel up to the Crater's edge where you will camp for the night.
For those guests taking the 1 night/2 day option, you will be collected from Arusha in the afternoon and transferred to Karatu for the night, where you will join the rest of the group the following morning for your game drive through the Ngorongoro Crater. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha, Tanzania
This morning you travel into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wonder with spectacular views form the rim. The Ngorongoro Crater is home to nearly every species of African animal, including large concentrations of East African mammals like Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino, Lion, Hippo and plains game.
After spending a full morning in the Crater you return to your campsite for another night. Both of these optional excursions will follow the same schedule today. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Day 5: Arusha to Pangani, Tanzania
Today you will leave Arusha and head towards the warm Indian Ocean. You travel through the town of Moshi and cross the southern slopes of the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. You will get the chance to view the snowy summit, weather permitting. You continue south, passing the Usambara Mountains en route to Dar Es Salaam. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Day 6: Pangani to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Today is another long days drive through lush scenery on your way to Dar Es Salaam. You spend the night at the beach hotel/campsite situated north of the city. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Day 7: Dar Es Salaam to Zanzibar
Today you take a ferry to the Spice Island of Zanzibar, where you spend the next 3 nights. Breakfast is included.
Please Note: Accommodation and food on the island of Zanzibar are on the client's own account. A trip leader will accompany clients to the island and will be able to book accommodation and tours on the island.
Days 8 & 9: Zanzibar
Guests can participate in numerous activities on the island, including visits to Stone Town, tours of the spice plantations, trips to the nearby Prison Island, or exploring the more remote areas of the Island by motor bike.
Day 10: Zanzibar to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Today you leave Zanzibar, taking the ferry back to the mainland for an overnight in Dar Es Salaam. There may have the opportunity to visit one of the craft markets, or observe the local carvers at work. Dinner is included.
Day 11: Dar Es Salaam to Iringa, Tanzania
On day 11 of your backpacking tour, you leave Dar Es Salaam and head for Iringa, passing through the Mikumi National Park. It is possible to view wildlife from the roadside. You will spend the night at the Old Farmhouse, a lovely and rustic campsite in rural Tanzania. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Days 12 - 15: Iringa to Lake Malawi, Malawi
The following morning you head to Malawi, passing through the amazing tea plantations of Tikuku. You enter Malawi through the border post of Songwe and head to Chitimba Beach campsite for the night.
Lake Malawi offers lots of exciting water sports from different beachside campsites for the more adventurous. For the more faint hearted, wandering along the quiet shorelines, visits to the local schools and villages, or relaxing on the white beaches are tranquil and peaceful experiences. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Days 16 & 17: Lake Malawi to Chipata to Lusaka, Zambia
Today your overland tour crosses the border into Zambia, heading to your campsite, 10 kilometres before the border. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
On day 17 you cross Zambia, passing through the capital city of Lusaka for a night. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Days 18 & 19: Lusaka to Lake Kariba, Zambia
You start the day early, heading south to Lake Kariba, your base camp for the next 2 nights. Lake Kariba is one of the largest man made lakes in the world and is home to an incredible amount of African game and unique flora and fauna.
Here you will have the option of taking a 2 night trip on the House Boat on Lake Kariba. For those not partaking in the House Boat option, enjoy the many activities at the campsite, including fishing, canoeing, hiking, swimming, or exploring the local villages. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
House Boat option 2 night/2 day:
Today you will board the House Boat and sail out to the Maaze River to watch the lovely sunset and overnight. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
The following day is yours to enjoy at leisure, either relaxing in the Jacuzzi on deck, fishing/game cruise on tender boats, or the optional game walk on the island in the Maaze area. After lunch you will head to the Maaze Island where you will tour the Crocodile Farm. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Day 20: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Today your overland adventure tour crosses the border into the town of Victoria Falls. The Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular sights you will ever see during any visit to Africa.
Experience the wonder and beauty of this majestic Falls on panoramic flights, available all year round. Other not to be missed activities includes white water rafting in the Batoka Gorge and bungi jumping from the Zambezi Bridge.
Other optional activities include day trips to the Zambezi National Park, horse riding safaris, visits to the Crocodile Ranch, Snake Park, golf at Elephant Hills Hotel, parachuting and trips to the Falls Craft Village.
Days 21 & 22: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
You spend the next 2 days at your leisure, partaking in the many activities available, or just relaxing around camp. Breakfast is included.
Days 23 & 24: Victoria Falls to Chobe National Park, Botswana
This morning your overland adventure tour departs, crosses the border of Zimbabwe, and enters the beautiful country of Botswana, where you set up camp for the night. You spend your day exploring the area, or relaxing on the banks of the Chobe River. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
On day 24 you wake up early for your exhilarating morning game drive in the Chobe National Park, one of Botswana's premier game parks. Chobe National Park is renowned for its large herds of Elephant around the Chobe River. Later in the afternoon, guests have the option of partaking in a boat ride along the Chobe River. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Day 25: Chobe National Park to Maun, Botswana
Today your tour travels in a south westerly direction to Maun, your base camp for your optional excursion to the Okavango Delta. Today is a long day's drive with lunch on the roadside. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Days 26 & 27: Okavango Delta, Botswana
You have t he option of taking a 3 day/2 night excursion into the Delta. You travel north to the Mokoro polers station, from where you hire mokoros (dug out canoes), which are poled by local guides.
Your guides will then select a place where you will be able to set up camp for the night. An exciting afternoon game walk introduces you to the smaller aspects of the Delta. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
You spend day 27 of your overland adventure tour to rest and relax, and partake in the many activities available, including game walks, mokoro cruises, swimming, and even the chance to pole you own mokoro. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Day 28: Okavango Delta to Maun, Botswana
This morning you get your final opportunity to partake in a morning game walk. You return to camp to pack up, before departing to Maun. You arrive in the early afternoon, with the option of taking a scenic sunset flight over the Delta region, your last look at the Delta before continuing your journey. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Days 29 & 30: Maun to Rundu to Etosha, Namibia
Today you leave Maun, traveling in a south west direction towards Namibia. You stock up on camp supplies in Rundu before reaching your campsite for the night. Your campsite is located on the banks of the Kavango River, complete with open air facilities and the occasional Hippo grazing on the lawn. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
On day 30 you arrive in the Etosha National Park in the late afternoon. This Park is Namibia's premier nature reserve and is home to a large variety of animal and bird species. Spend the evening on the viewing benches overlooking the floodlit waterhole. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Days 31 & 32: Etosha to Cheetah Park, Namibia
You enjoy another full day of game drives, making your way across 150 kilometres of the Park. Tonight you will have another opportunity to view the animals at the waterhole. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
On day 32 you enjoy a short drive to the Cheetah Park, a private farm in Namibia. This farm teaches guests about the conservation of these precious creatures in Namibia, and guests have the opportunity to meet the resident Cheetah's at the house. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Day 33: Cheetah Park to Spitzkoppe, Namibia
After days drive you arrive in Spitzkoppe, one of Namibia's most recognized landmarks. Here you will get the opportunity to explore the interesting bushman paintings and the surrounding area. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included.
Day 34: Spitzkoppe to Swakopmund, Namibia
Today your tour follows the Atlantic coast south to the Cape Cross Seal Colony, the largest of the 23 breeding colonies of Cape Fur Seals along the coast of South Africa and Namibia. After exploring the area, you arrive in Swakopmund in the later afternoon. Breakfast and lunch is included.
Days 35 & 36: Swakopmund, Namibia
Swakopmund offers a hub of activity, from great restaurants, bars and coffee shops to fine beaches, many arts and crafts shops, a wonderful museum, an aquarium and excellent galleries.
Optional excursions include fishing trips, quad bikes, sand boarding, skydiving, desert flights, water sports, golf and 4WD hire. Accommodation is in dormitories, but upgrades is available. Breakfast is included.
Day 37: Swakopmund to Windhoek, Namibia
Today is an easy one as you board a coach for your drive to Windhoek, where your tour will end.
